What appears to be one of the simplest things to do is actually so easy to do wrong that more than half the trees we see planted end up dying within 5 years. Ironically it takes a tree 5 years to establish itself in a new location. So if your planted tree does not survive that first 5 years, it was most likely due to poor planning and care during the planting phase. Installing a tree starts for us when the tree is removed from its original location, not when it is delivered off of a truck or picked up from a nursery.

Structural Tree Inspection

Do you have a tree with a large wound? This is a very detailed inspection of one specific tree done by a "Tree Risk Assessment Certified" (TRAC) professional. This is not an opinion rendered by a "tree service." The report will give you a detailed description of the tree's condition and a likelihood of failure in a specified time. It is a very useful tool to help make decisions when thousands of dollars are at stake for removals.

Trimming and Pruning
Improperly pruned trees are a common site. It results in significant damage to trees over time at which point we are called in to diagnosis the issue. The canopy interacts with the elements in a very complex way. Improper pruning will change the way the tree interacts with the wind and can cause additional limb loss, decay and structural failure. You don't want a significant part of your tree to fail because it was improperly pruned. We see this very often and it is a shame. Topping is not an acceptable practice. There are also many other practices common in our area that leave the tree in poor shape.

Probably the most dangerous aspect of tree work this is where most hobby handymen, homeowners and fly-by-pickup workers get hurt and killed. If trees are broken, hung up or have failed in any manner, a professional tree care company is your best resource.

Cabling and Bracing
This aspect of tree care has been changing very rapidly and is still under constant change. The old method of using steel cable is not always what will work for the tree. Although steel is still used, there are many different materials now on the market that let the tree move more freely if needed. I have been doing a lot of work with different materials and adapting the installation techniques to suit the specific host plant. Close to the lake with the high winds we have it is important to let the trees flex their canopies in the wind.

Disease Analysis and Prognosis

Site Preservation / Construction Management
Are you building a house? Doing some landscaping? Often we are called in to do a professional consultation because a tree is looking rather poor. Many times this is a result of root zone damage due to construction. A construction consultation prior to commencing work can save you thousands in tree care cost after construction.
